01What you get
Connect your Tournant account to Claude and you can ask about your business in plain language instead of clicking through reports. Claude reads your live data — orders, payments, expenses, customers, P&L — and answers.
Questions that work well:
- "Which customers owe me money, oldest first?"
- "What did I spend on vegetables last month?"
- "Compare this month's P&L against last month's."
- "Which menu items sold worst in July?"
With write access switched on (section 05), it can also record a payment, draft a quote, or fix a menu price for you.
This is a Beta feature on the Growth plan. It works, and it's being actively built on — tell us what breaks.
02Before you start
- Your Tournant organization is on the Growth plan.
- You're signing in as an admin or accountant — those roles can see money detail. A staff login connects, but gets much less back.
- You have a Claude account. Custom connectors work on the free plan too — free accounts can have one.
- A browser, for this one step. The Claude phone app can't add a connector yet. Your phone's browser can — go to claude.ai in it rather than opening the app.
You only need the browser once. A connector belongs to your Claude account, not to one device: add it at claude.ai and it turns up in the Claude app on your phone the next time you open it. Day to day, you ask from the phone.
03Connect it
The connector address is:
https://api.tournant.io/api/mcp
- Open claude.ai in a browser and sign in. On a phone, use the browser — not the Claude app.
- Go to Customize → Connectors and choose Add custom connector. (Claude's exact wording moves between versions — look for adding a connector by URL. Anthropic's own walkthrough is here.)
- Paste the address above and continue. Claude sets itself up from there — there's no key to generate and nothing to paste back.
- Tournant asks you to sign in, if you aren't already. Use your normal Tournant login.
- An approval screen shows your organization name and exactly what's being requested. Choose Approve.
You'll land back in Claude with the connector live. Ask it "what's my outstanding total?" to confirm.
Now open the Claude app on your phone. The connector is already there — ask it the same question. That's where you'll use it from now on; the browser was only for setting it up.
You can also see the connection from Tournant's side any time: Settings → Integrations lists what's attached, who approved it, and how long the approval has left.
An approval lasts 30 days. When it lapses, Claude asks you to sign in and approve again — nothing is lost, and you don't need to re-add the connector.
04What Claude can see
Everything is scoped to your one organization. Claude can never see another restaurant's data through your connection, and it only ever sees what your own login is allowed to see — the same role rules as the app.
Your customers' contact details are masked by default: phone numbers come through as the last four digits, email addresses are redacted, and postal addresses are dropped entirely. Names, amounts, dates and document numbers pass through, because reconciliation needs them. If you explicitly ask Claude for a customer's phone number to chase a payment, it can fetch it — and that request is written to your audit log every single time.
Reads are read-only. Nothing in section 04 changes a number in your books.
05Letting it make changes
Write access is off for every account by default. Turning it on takes two steps, on purpose:
- In Tournant, go to Settings → Integrations and switch on Let AI Assistants Make Changes. Admin only.
- Disconnect and reconnect the connector in Claude. This is the step people miss. An approval already granted is fixed at read-only — it cannot gain new permissions without a fresh approval, so an assistant connected before you flipped the switch stays read-only until you reconnect it.
With writes on, Claude can record and correct payments, create customers and vendors, log expenses, draft and send quotes, and edit menus and items. Every one of those lands in your audit log, and payments are recorded idempotently — asking twice does not pay twice.
Some things stay off-limits by design, whatever you switch on: it cannot delete your organization, change your plan, touch payroll accruals, or move a customer's balance directly.
Switching it back off takes effect immediately. Any connected assistant that could make changes has its approval revoked on the spot, so it can't record anything else. It goes back to no access at all until someone approves it again — which, with the switch off, gets it read-only.
06Disconnecting
From Tournant: Settings → Integrations → Disconnect next to the connection. Access stops immediately. Anything Claude already recorded stays — disconnecting is not an undo.
From Claude: remove the connector in its own settings.
Do it from Tournant if the device that approved it is lost or the person who approved it has left. You don't need access to Claude, or to that laptop, for the Tournant side to take effect.
07Troubleshooting
"The Claude connector requires the Growth plan" — exactly what it says: the approval screen refuses before it can mint anything. Check your plan in Settings → Billing.
"No grantable scopes for this organization" — a connector asked only for permission to make changes while the Integrations switch is off. Turn on Let AI Assistants Make Changes (section 05) and try again.
Claude connects but can't record anything — almost always the missing reconnect from section 05, step 2. Disconnect, connect again, approve again.
It worked, then stopped after you connected somewhere else — one approval per assistant, per person. Approving again replaces your previous approval for that assistant rather than adding a second one, so the older connection stops. That's deliberate: it means Disconnect can never leave a forgotten approval alive. Connect from whichever device you're using.
There's no "Add custom connector" in the Claude app — there isn't one to find; the phone app can't add connectors yet. Add it at claude.ai in a browser (your phone's browser works), then it appears in the app.
It answers about orders but refuses on money — you're signed in with a staff role. Money detail needs admin or accountant.
It stopped working after about a month — the 30-day approval lapsed. Reconnect.
An error mentioning permissions or scope right after a Tournant update — remove the connector in Claude, add it again, and approve. A stored approval occasionally can't pick up a change on its own.

Connecting an assistant means your business data is sent to that assistant's provider so it can answer you. You control the connection and can revoke it at any time. See AI assistant connectors in our privacy policy for the details.
